The addition of an elevator to this century-old mixed-use building on the corner of West Broadway and F Street involved the removal of a straight-run stair that led directly from the entrance door to the second floor and its replacement with a new stair connecting the basement, first, and second floors. This allowed for the placement of the elevator at the rear of the building, away from valuable retail space on the street. On the second floor the new communicating stair opens into the monumental, historic, skylit, original stair.
